8-16 Bit Systems I Have
Table of Contents
Background
I grew up in the 8-16 bit heyday and got into computing through the Commodore 64. Through times, I have had a number of systems but ended up selling them or loosing them. Though in and around Covid times, with lockdowns prevalent here in Australia, it was time to get back into it. So started buying some of the systems that I wanted to play around with. I now have most all of the keystone systems that I like and will likely not have to acquire anything new to complement the collection that I have.
Original hardware
The systems I have that are original include the following:
- Commodore 64 (Breadbin)
- Commodore 64C
- Commodore 128
- Commodore 128D
- Amiga 500
- Amiga 600
- Amiga 1000
- Amiga 1200
These are systems that are original but have been recapped to keep them alive for some time longer.
New hardware
With people investing time and energy recreating new versions of the old hardware, there are some things that just work now better than in the old days. Gideon’s Ultimate products are examples of that, so of course… had to get a few of the new ‘boards’ to put into non working systems to make them ‘current’ in the way you can play around with them easier and better.
The following systems I have now that are based on new hardware.
- Commodore 64 (Breadbin) with a Ultimate-64 (not sure they have the older version listed still…)
- Commodore 64C with a Ultimate-64 Elite
- Ultimate-II+ - A cartridge with the same or similar functionalities to the Ultimate-64 boards
- The C64 Mini
- The C64 Maxi
